SCALITY MAESTRO
Run every ARTESCA deployment from one console.
Maestro is the fleet management platform for service providers and enterprises running Scality ARTESCA object storage at scale, across customer sites, branch offices, and the edge.
Monitor fleet health, push software and firmware updates down to the hardware, and track capacity across every customer site. Maestro does this without a VPN tunnel into a single customer environment.
The operational reality
Scaling backup-as-a-service means scaling operations
A backup-as-a-service business rarely stays small. What starts as a handful of Scality ARTESCA deployments becomes dozens, then hundreds, each one sitting inside a different customer environment. Every deployment needs monitoring, software and firmware updates, and capacity tracking for billing.
Without a way to manage them together, that work does not scale. Operators log into each system on its own. They open a VPN tunnel into every customer site to reach it. Updates run one deployment at a time. Capacity reports get assembled by hand at the end of the month.
WHAT MAESTRO DOES
One platform for the whole fleet
Five capabilities that turn a growing set of separate deployments into a single managed operation.
Fleet-wide health monitoring
See the health of every ARTESCA deployment across the fleet from a single console, with alerting when a site needs attention.
Updates down to the hardware
Push ARTESCA software upgrades and server firmware updates across the fleet, without working through each deployment by hand.
Capacity and automated billing
Aggregate capacity utilization across every customer deployment and feed it directly into automated pay-as- you-go billing.
No VPN into customer sites
Traffic flows in one direction, from ARTESCA out to Maestro. Maestro never connects into a customer environment, so there are no VPN tunnels to build or maintain.
Built for multi-site
Manage ARTESCA across branch offices and distributed edge locations, whether you run a managed service or operate your own sites.
How the connection works
The connection only goes one way.
Each ARTESCA deployment opens a connection out to Maestro and reports in. Maestro does not reach back into the customer environment. That single design choice removes the VPN requirement and the network reconfiguration that usually comes with managing infrastructure you do not own.
We manage multiple Scality ARTESCA deployments across our key customer sites in the UK and Ireland as part of our backup-as-a-service offering, and until Maestro, every one of them was independently managed, with separate logins, VPN tunnels, manual update cycles, and monthly capacity reports assembled by hand. Instead, Maestro gives us a single view of the entire fleet. Software updates that consume hours of staff time can now be monitored centrally, and we can grow the fleet without adding operational headcount. We can already foresee a significant difference in running our service.
AVAILABILITY AND COMPATIBILITY
Generally available today
Scality Maestro 1.1 is generally available and supports all Scality ARTESCA deployments running version 4.0.3 or later. Maestro runs as an on-premises deployment today.
A Saas delivery model is planned for a future release. Full documentation is available to Scality service providers through the partner portal.
