What is Veeam Data Platform?
Veeam Data Platform is Veeam Software's bundle of backup, monitoring and recovery tools sold under one license. It comes in three editions: Foundation, Advanced and Premium.
Veeam is the most common backup software in many mid-sized IT shops. In an April 2026 announcement, Veeam reported that IDC's software tracker ranked it first in data protection software. Its share for the second half of 2025 was 13.6%.
Three products sold as one
Think of the platform as a car sold in three trim levels. The engine is the same in every one. Higher trims add instruments and driver aids, not more horsepower.
The engine is Veeam Backup & Replication, which runs the backup jobs and restores. Veeam ONE adds monitoring and reports. Veeam Recovery Orchestrator adds written recovery plans that can run and test themselves. The storage that holds the backups is not part of the license, unless Veeam's own cloud service, Veeam Vault, is added on.
Foundation, Advanced or Premium
| Edition | What it adds | Work it takes off the team |
|---|---|---|
| Foundation | Backup and restore, including instant recovery and the hardened software appliance | Running jobs and restores |
| Advanced | Veeam ONE monitoring, malware scanning of backups, links to security tools | Watching job health and spotting suspicious restore points |
| Premium | Recovery Orchestrator plans, automated recovery tests and compliance reports | Proving that restores work |
Every edition makes the same backups. The difference is how much checking, reporting and testing happens automatically. A team that already monitors jobs another way gets the same protection on Foundation, with more manual work.
Questions to settle before picking an edition
- Who proves restores work today? Auditors and cyber insurers increasingly ask for test results. Premium produces them on a schedule. Otherwise someone runs restore testing by hand and writes it up.
- How will a clean restore point be found after an attack? Malware scanning in Advanced and Premium helps pick one. It does not protect the backups themselves.
- Where will the backups live, and are they locked? Capacity and immutable restore points come from the storage underneath, not the edition.
- How many service accounts will reach the backup server? Each added product connects with its own logins, which widens the administrative blast radius.
ARTESCA and Veeam Data Platform
ARTESCA sits at the storage layer under every edition, and the edition does not change how it stores or locks data. Scality's Veeam compatibility page lists ARTESCA as validated with Veeam Backup & Replication, including S3 Object Lock and SOSAPI capacity reporting. Storage health shows in ARTESCA's own interface and in Grafana and Prometheus, next to Veeam ONE's view of the jobs.
ARTESCA does not replace any edition feature. Malware scanning, recovery plans and test reports stay in Veeam. The ARTESCA+ Veeam appliance runs the Veeam server and the storage on one system.
